Take the No Shark Fin Pledge

Take the No Shark Fin Pledge

Each year, millions of sharks are hunted down, only to have their fins sliced off and their bodies thrown back into the ocean, often left to die an agonizing death. "Finning" is done to satisfy an appetite for dishes such as shark fin soup, which may be served by Chinese restaurants and during Lunar New Year celebrations, weddings, and other events.

Consuming shark fin soup is cruel and unnecessary. In fact, legislation has been enacted in Hawaii, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Washington, Oregon, and California. And in another recent victory, The Toronto City Council voted overwhelmingly to ban the possession, sale, trade and distribution of shark fins and their byproducts within the Toronto City limits.
