Pledge to Keep Cats and Wildlife Safe

The Humane Society of the United States stands up for all animals. This is a challenge when the animals we protect come into conflict, as with predation of outdoor cats on wildlife. Stand with us as we rise to this challenge.

Cat owners can make one of the largest differences of all. There are more than 70 million owned cats in the U.S. and only 60 percent live safely indoors. We call on all cat households to please keep pet cats indoors, get cats spayed or neutered and keep collars and visible ID on them at all times.

These simple actions will protect wildlife by reducing the number of cats outdoors, decreasing the overall population of community cats and helping reunite lost cats with their families. Here are some things you can do if you want to protect all animals:

• Support programs that work to manage community cat populations, such as trap-neuter-return programs.
• Subsidize the cost of spaying or neutering for cat owners who cannot afford it.
• Support your local wildlife rehabilitation facility to help injured birds and other animals.
• Get cats sterilized to help community cats and wildlife—if you feed a stray, neuter or spay!
• Make your backyard safer for wildlife through our Humane Backyard tips.

Take the pledge by filling in your information below, and say "YES" to protecting both cats and wildlife.

Protect cats and wildlife!

Cats who are outdoors can be harmful to birds and other wildlife -- animals that deserve protection just as much as cats. I pledge to protect both cats and wildlife by taking any of the above steps that are possible for me. I will do my part to help keep my cat safe as well as protect my wild neighbors.
