End the dog and cat meat trade!

Around 30 million dogs and untold numbers of cats are subjected to the brutal dog and cat meat industry globally every year. The Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act, H.R. 1406, wwould amend the federal Animal Welfare Act to prohibit domestic slaughter, trade, and import/export of dogs and cats for human consumption, and establish penalties for violators.

H.R. 1406 will build on bans already in place in California, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, New York, and Virginia, as well as prohibitions on the cruel practice in parts of Asia including Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. This legislation will prevent the appalling trade from taking hold in the U.S. and strengthen our hand in seeking to end it worldwide.
