Dear official,

As a resident who cares deeply about animals and our natural ecosystem, I urge your agency to adopt a policy opposing wildlife killing contests. Wildlife killing contests are often touted as an entertaining means of population control, in which participants kill a variety of species for fun and prizes. But these contests flout the principles of science-based wildlife management.

Wildlife killing contests are also contrary to the idea of fair-chase hunting, utilizing cruel or unsporting methods such as trapping, hounding and predator calling, which lures curious animals with the sound of young or prey in distress. In addition, wildlife killing contests often target native carnivores like coyotes, foxes and bobcats, which are critical to natural ecosystems.

Sincerely,
