Despite their image, the AKC is not an animal welfare organization. It is a purebred dog registry sustained by dog registration fees. Because of their financial dependence on commercial breeders, the AKC regularly lobbies against animal welfare bills, including those that would provide protections for dogs in puppy mills.
For years, the AKC has opposed laws and ordinances which aimed to protect dogs in puppy mills, combat dogfighting, prevent the sexual abuse of animals and protect dogs from suffering in extreme temperatures.
Please use the form below to send a brief, polite message to Dennis Sprung, president of the AKC and ask that the AKC stop protecting puppy mills. We will save these letters and deliver them to the AKC starting in June. Be sure to edit your message so it stands out.
