Take Action:

Dear Director Skipwith,

I am writing to voice my opposition to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's proposed rule as it overturns the prohibition on hunting of rare and iconic brown bears over fetid bait in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. This unwanted and unnecessary proposal celebrates this cruel and unsporting trophy-hunting practice while ignoring the wishes of the majority of Americans, including Alaskans, who oppose these practices, and fails to maintain wildlife populations in their natural diversity.

This expansion of bear baiting is particularly concerning as the loss of brown bears in Alaska has already spawned alarm cries from numerous biologists in peer-reviewed, scientific publications.

In addition, there is a human safety aspect to all of this as the practice of bear-baiting habituates bears to human scents and could lead to conflicts at campgrounds, picnic areas, and other areas where humans have food.

Signed,
