The HSUS Prairie Dog Coalition rescues six prairie dogs found in Alabama

The prairie dog population has plummeted over 95 percent from decades of persecution. But we're working to promote humane solutions to conflicts between prairie dogs and people — and we need your help.

We recently discovered 6 prairie dog pups being sold illegally in an Alabama pet store — a place no prairie dog should ever be. Luckily, after authorities removed the animals from the pet store, one of our local partner groups prepared the prairie dogs to be released back into the wild and contacted the Prairie Dog Coalition about release options. The PDC finally found a perfect place for the animals at our Black Beauty Ranch in Texas — where the Alabama 6 can live out their lives just as nature intended.

Please use the secure form below to make a donation exclusively toward the Prairie Dog Coalition's work to save the prairie dogs. With your donation, we’ll send you updates and action alerts so you can take quick, simple actions for animals each week — plus, with a donation of $25 or more you’ll receive a free subscription to our award-winning, bi-monthly All Animals magazine with animal care tips, news from The HSUS, and investigative reports from the animal protection field.

Every year, we relocate as many prairie dogs as we can, work to protect and defend prairie dog protection areas on public lands reaching at least 10,000 prairie dogs annually, conduct research to protect these animals from exotic disease and implement nonlethal management solutions in key places.
