  1. How do I register for Walk Humane? Is there a fee?
Click to register online. There you can choose whether you will register as an individual, or if you'd like to form or join a team. If you experience problems registering, you may call Walk Humane at 202-676-2396. Early registration fee is $5 per person. After August 26, the fee is $10 per person.

  2. Is there a fundraising requirement?
No there is no fundraising requirement to participate. But we encourage you to raise at least $125. Why? Because it's easy and you can! Since the registration fee is minimal and covers the cost of the event, fundraising is how we can really help the animals. Fundraising rewards begin when you raise your first $65. The registration fee does not count toward your fundraising goal. The online tools you'll have access to once you register will show you how easy it is to fundraise.

  3. How long is the Walk?
The Walk is 1.5 miles with an optional 1-mile add-on. You may choose to walk or jog the route.

  4. How are proceeds used from Walk Humane fundraising?
60 percent of Walk Humane’s net proceeds stay in the area to fund local programs that directly benefit pets in the area through spay/neuter, adoption, and feral cat rescue. Remaining proceeds support The Humane Society of the United States' efforts to protect animals nationwide, including programs to end dogfighting, promote spay/neuter and shelter adoptions, and shut down puppy mills.

  5. How can I find a participant's fundraising page?
Go to donate and perform a search by either their first or last name.

  6. Why does the “donate” search not find the participant?
You must enter the name in exactly the same way the participant did. Enter only the first few letters of the participant's name instead of the whole name.

  7. Where do I mail donation checks?
All check donations must be attached to a donation form and mailed to the address listed on the donation form. Each participant or team member can access the correct donation form within their Participant Center.

  8. Where can I find a donation form?
If you are a donor, you will need to get the form from the participant. General donation forms may be found on the Donor FAQ page -- but remember that donations made using this form will go to the event goal as a whole, not to the participant's goal.
If you are a participant, donation forms for Walk Humane are found in your Participant Center only. Please be sure to include your Team and/or Individual ID on the form.

  9. Who should I make my check out to?
Checks should be made payable to: The HSUS Walk Humane.

  10. Are donations tax-deductible in the United States?
Yes. Monetary donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

  11. Can I volunteer for Walk Humane?
Volunteer positions are filled at this time. Please email us with the subject line "Volunteer Montauk".

  12. If I don’t show up at the event, where does the money that I've raised go to?
If you do not participate in Walk Humane, donations cannot be refunded or transferred. Your donations will still go directly to supporting the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Bideawee, Inc., and The Humane Society of the United States.

  13. How can I form or join a team?
If you are not yet registered for Walk Humane, register online to “Form a Team” or "Join a Team." Look for the  team you'd like to join and click the link on the far right that says 'join'. If you are already registered for the event but would like to switch your registration to a team, please contact us at walkhumane@humanesociety.org.

  14. Where can I get Walk Humane flier to print and distribute?
8.5 x 11 posters are available for download.

  15. Can my registration be transferred to another person?
Because each registration is associated with an address, email and participant center, you cannot transfer your registration to another person.

  16. What if it rains on event day?
Rain does not diminish the need to help animals. Walk Humane will take place rain or shine.

  17. Will my participation in the Walk be timed?
No. This is not a timed event.

  18. Are pets allowed?
Canine companions are welcome. But please note the following guidelines:
    - For their own safety, pets other than dogs are not allowed.
    - Participating dogs must be friendly and of good temperament.
    - Because we are addressing the issue of pet overpopulation, we highly recommend that dogs are spayed or neutered.
    - Puppies less than six months must have two rounds of the parvo-distemper vaccination.
    - The Walk is approximately 1.5 miles long, with an optional 1-mile add-on. Walkers and their dogs should be in suitable physical condition.
    - All dogs must have current rabies vaccinations.
    - Dogs must wear an identification tag and be kept on a leash (6 feet or shorter) at all times. No retractable leashes.
    - Several community dog watering stations will be provided.
    - Clean up after your dog. Please bring pet waste bags.
    - Do not leave pets in parked cars at any time.
